    Indigenous Health Round February 2023

    On February 10, 2023, iCON and Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) Indigenous Health hosted another Indigenous Health Round session titled “Who is an Ally and Who Says So?” We were delighted to have guest speakers Dr. Laurie Harding and Dr. Linda Diffey facilitated the discussion to unpack terminologies such as allyship, performativity, solidarity, white savourism, and more.

    This session discussed the difference between ally and white savourism, how to apply knowledge in an ongoing self-reflective assessment, what is white performativity, and what is the difference between allyship and co-conspirator.

    The iCON South Asian Chronic Disease in-person and online Workshop: “Diet and Diabetes” held on Wednesday, September 14, 2022. In this session participants learned about:

    • The relationship between diabetes and carbohydrates (roti and rice) in the South Asian diet – hidden sources of sugar and healthy alternatives
    • The effect of alcohol consumption on sugar levels/diabetes management
    • Using nutrition labels to make healthy choices when food prices are rising

    The iCON Chinese Chronic Disease Workshop: “Get Moving for Better Health” held on August 27, 2022 at St. Francis Xavier Church . In this interactive in-person presentation by registered physiotherapists, Nicole Tai and Emily Pak, participants learned about:

    • Understand the importance of physical activities in chronic disease prevention and management
    • Learn how to conduct exercises in a safe manner
    • Understand how digital health tools could help manage our health and exercise routine

    The iCON “Chronic Disease Webinar: Safe Medication Management” was held on Saturday, March 25, 2023. In this session participants learnt how to:

    • keep track of all your medications and medical conditions.
    • ensure your loved one is taking their medications appropriately.
